Student-Athlete Spotlight: Jason Bays

A four-year member of the Southern New Hampshire University men’s cross country team, senior captain Jason Bays (Cresco, Pa.) has quite a busy life when he’s not running for the Penmen.  In addition to the men’s cross country responsibilities, Bays is also a Resident Assistant, a writing tutor in SNHU’s Learning Center, a peer mentor, a classroom assistant, and served as Vice President of the Student Government Association last year.  In this week’s Student-Athlete Spotlight, Bays reveals some things that most people do not know about him.

Name: Jason Bays

Major: Business Administration

Pregame routine: We arrive at the race, go for a two mile warm up loop, stretch, have a team huddle, and then begin the race.

Something people don’t know about me: When I was little I used to build ski trails in my back yard and thought I ran a ski resort.

The moment I am most proud of: Being able to provide CPR and airway resuscitation to a guest experiencing cardiac arrest at the water park [where I work].

Favorite Athlete:  Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves because he is very loyal to his team, plays hard every day, and supports the team in any way possible to help them succeed.

Favorite meal in the SNHU Dining Center: Ham, macaroni and cheese, potatoes, carrots, and a peach smoothie.

If I were stranded on a desert island…: I would bring a surf board to ride the waves!

What’s on my iPod: I like anything country.

In five years: I’ll be managing a water park, ski resort, or theme park.

One item I can’t live without: Probably my cell phone because I like to stay in touch.

An interesting place I’ve been: Snowbird, Utah last year for spring break and it snowed 48 inches in three days. The skiing was fantastic!
