Hawks Edge Penmen Baseball 2-1
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Host Saint Anselm College scored twice
in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 2-1 Northeast-10
baseball victory over Southern New Hampshire University at Sullivan
Park Thursday afternoon. The Hawks improved to 9-12 overall
and 5-2 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 8-12 and 5-4 in the
league.
The first five batters for Saint Anselm would all reach base via base hit in the seventh as it scored twice. Steven Panza led off with a single, and would score when the next batter, T.J. Murphy, doubled to right-center. Murphy would later score on a single by James Garrigan.
The Penmen scored their only run in the top of the fourth when Jeff Giannino (Beverly, MA) hit a two-out solo home run.
SNHU freshman Brad Monroe (Hampton Falls, NH) took the loss on the mound, but did not allow a hit for the first six innings, while facing just one batter over the minimum, a walk to Murphy in the fourth. Monroe fanned seven in six innings. Nick Barese earned the win for Saint Anselm, surrendering just four hits in a complete-game victory while fanning six.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it hosts Bentley University for a noontime doubleheader.
