#5 Baseball Earns Sixth Straight NCAA Tournament Berth; Will Host East Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – The fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team garnered a selection to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season and has earned hosting duties, as well as the No. 1 seed, for the East Regional, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Sunday night when it released its field of 56 teams.

SNHU, which will host the East Regional at Penmen Field on May 18-22, will also have bye on day one thanks to its No. 1 seed. The Penmen will open regional play Friday, May 19 (3 p.m.) against the winner of Thursday's meeting between fourth-seeded Long Island University-LIU Post and fifth seeded Felician University.

Southern New Hampshire, which will also make its sixth appearance, overall, in the NCAA Tournament and host the East Regional for the fourth time, is 2-0 all-time in the tourney versus Felician, while it has never faced LIU Post. The Penmen dropped their season opener to LIU Post (4-3) on Feb. 23 and did not face Felician this season.

The winner of the East Regional will punch its ticket to the Division II College World Series at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie in Grand Prairie, Texas, from May 27-June 3.

The Penmen are 15-11 (.577) lifetime in the NCAA Tournament and captured their only regional title back in 2012 when they finished with a 43-15 record to go along with their trip to the Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C. Last season, SNHU went a program-best 50-7, losing its regional opener before staving off elimination five straight times to force a winner-take-all game two in the championship round, but fell to Franklin Pierce.

After hosting the East Regional in each of its first three years in the tourney (2012-14), SNHU traveled to Franklin Pierce the last two seasons.

Tickets, which will be available 90 minutes before the start of the first game each day, are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, children and students with a valid ID. Children under the age of two are free. Per NCAA policy, no complimentary tickets will be issued.
