Junior Daquaise Andrews (Queens, N.Y.) tallied 19 points (9-15 FG, 1-1 FT), five rebounds and four assists, with senior Dimitri Floras (Merrimack, N.H.) netting 14 points (6-14 FG, 2-2 FT), to go along with five boards and two steals. The contest was tied, 10-10, just over five minutes in when a bucket from redshirt-senior Scott Toresco (Westfield, N.J.) sparked a 20-2 rush – with nine points from Walters – to crack open a 30-12 advantage just past the midway point of the opening half.
An 8-2 run – capped by a Cheatom triple – pulled Saint Michael's within 32-20 at the eight-minute mark, while an 11-3 stretch – with five points from Cheatom – just over three minutes later, slashed the Purple Knight's deficit to 40-33 with 2:46 remaining. Southern New Hampshire capped the scoring with an 8-2 counter-run that featured four points each from Floras and Andrews, and sent it to the locker room with a 48-35 lead.
The margin was 11 nearly four minutes into the second half when back-to-back 3-pointers from junior Charlie Russo (Syracuse, N.Y.) triggered an 11-0 blitz that put Southern New Hampshire in the driver's seat at 62-40 with 14:42 to play.
The gap fluctuated between 17 and 22 over the next eight-plus minutes before a 5-0 spurt gave the Penmen their largest lead of the night at 80-56 with 5:52 on the clock. Five straight points from Holmes carried an 8-2 run that made it 86-69 with just over a minute left.
Russo tallied nine points (3-9 FG, 2-5 3-FG, 1-1 FT), six rebounds and four steals, while Toresco chipped in four points (2-3 FG).
