Three From Men's Lacrosse Named NEILA All-New England
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Seniors Mike and Sean Ball (Salem, NH) and sophomore Gary McKay (Billerica, MA) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team were recently named to the Turfer/New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division II All-New England team.
Mike Ball, who was the NEILA Player of the Year last season, is a two-time NEILA and Northeast-10 First Team selection. This season, he led the Penmen for the second straight year offensively, racking up 41 goals and 21 assists for 62 points. Ball has totaled 10 points in two occasions, in wins over American International and Franklin Pierce, and is ranked second in the Northeast-10 in goals and points per game.
Sean Ball finished second on the Penmen in goal scoring as he scored 23 times this season, while his 32 points placed him third on the squad. He totaled a season-high four goals and an assist in a win over Franklin Pierce and also had two goals and three assists in a win at Saint Michael's.
McKay has established himself as one of the top faceoff men in Division II. This season, he has won 65.5% (205-313) of his faceoff attempts while also collecting a team-high and league-high 105 ground balls on the season. In last week's NCAA Division II statistical rankings, McKay ranked fourth nationally in faceoff percentage and fifth in ground balls per game. In a win over Franklin Pierce McKay won 34 of 38 faceoffs and collected 22 ground balls.
SNHU qualified for the Northeast-10 Tournament for the first time since 2006.
