Men's Lacrosse Announces 2010 Captains
Manchester, N.H.-Team captains for the 2010 men's lacrosse season were announced recently by Coach Paul Calkins. Senior Terrence Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.) and juniors Keith Merluzzo (Billerica, Mass.) and Mike Scotina (Peabody, Mass.) have been awarded the honor.
Nash, a midfielder, played in 12 games for the Penmen last season. He scored 13 goals, including two game-winning goals, and dished out 11 assists for 24 points, ranking him fifth on the team. He registered three goals and handed out an assist in a 25-9 win against Franklin Pierce a season ago. Over the past three years, Nash has compiled a total of 30 points with 15 goals and 15 assists.
Merluzzo recorded 34 points at attack a season ago, ranking him second on the team in points. In his second season, Merluzzo scored 15 goals and recorded 19 assists. He scored three goals and dished out four assists in a 22-11 win against American International, and had two goals and three assists in a 12-8 win at Saint Michael's. In two years, Merluzzo has totaled 68 points for the Penmen with 36 goals and 32 assists.
Scotina, a defenseman, started all 13 games in which he appeared last season. He collected 21 ground balls and caused seven turnovers for the Penmen. He started each of the first nine games of the 2008 season before being sidelined with an injury and was named an All-New England defender. In two years of play, Scotina has totaled 35 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
Southern New Hampshire opens the 2010 season on Saturday, March 6, traveling to Molloy College for a 1:00 p.m. start. The Penmen will open their home and Northeast-10 Conference schedules on March 13, facing crosstown rival Saint Anselm at 1:00 p.m. on Larkin Field.
