Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 16 seconds in as junior Joseph Mayernik (Pearl River, N.Y.) quickly found the back of the net off a feed from Calkins, before setting up Schutz just 34 seconds later to double the advantage.
Schutz added an unassisted tally with 3:06 to go in the opening quarter, with Mayernick picking up his second helper just under a half-minute later on a goal from senior Zach Tanner (Woburn, Mass.) to put the Penmen in front, 4-0. The Golden Falcons pulled within 4-2 just 3:25 into the second quarter, but Schutz would collect the hat trick under two minutes later to reclaim the three-goal advantage for the Penmen. Cairo took advantage of a man-up opportunity at the 8:08 mark, tallying his first of the day off a Calkins dish, with Calkins capping the first-half scoring with 1:06 to go to send the SNHU to the locker room with a 7-2 lead.
After Schutz set up Cairo to open the scoring in the second half just 3:23 in, Jefferson Jacob answered for Felician at the 5:14 mark to trim the deficit to five. From there, however, it was all Penmen, as they scored the final four goals of the stanza to seize a commanding 12-3 lead. Cairo scored twice during the stretch, with senior Cam Rewucki (Dover, N.H.) and freshman Cole Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.) adding the other two.
Southern New Hampshire then scored six unanswered in the final frame, with Calkins having a hand in three of them and Schutz scoring twice.
