AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore Tyler Mello (Acushnet, Mass.) and senior Zach Tanner (Woburn, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team were named New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse (NEILA) Division II All-New England on Tuesday, as the organization announced its annual All-New England teams. Mello was tabbed a First Team defenseman while Tanner was named a Second Team midfielder.
Mello was the top defender for the Penmen this season, and one of just three student-athletes to start each of Southern New Hampshire's 14 games. A Second Team All-NEILA selection a season ago, he was matched up with the opposition's top offensive threat and finished second on the team in caused turnovers with 13, sixth in ground balls (21) and added an assist in SNHU's 15-10 triumph over American International College on April 21.
Tanner enjoyed a breakout campaign in his final season in Manchester, as he led the Southern New Hampshire attack with a career-high 38 points on 22 goals and 16 assists. He saw action in all 14 games and registered at least one point in 13 contests with nine multiple point efforts. Tanner tallied at least three points on nine occasions and turned in six-straight games of at least three points from March 24 through April 10, which included two four-point games and a five-goal outburst against Saint Anselm College. He set new career highs in goals, assists, points, man-up goals (5), ground balls (19) and caused turnovers (3) while more than doubling his career point total.
The Penmen finished their 2018 season with an overall mark of 5-9, which included a 3-8 ledger within the confines of the Northeast-10 Conference.
