Senior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) did not drop a game in singles play, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team recorded a 9-0 victory against Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
Graduate student Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France) and sophomore Bas van Biezen (Sassenheim, Netherlands) set the bar with an 8-0 triumph over Cam Maher and Max Allen at No. 2 doubles, before Fernandes and senior Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) posted an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles against Matt Mosher and Dan Foley. Seniors Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) and Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 against Trevor Work and Jake Remillard.
Aubron was the first one to close out a singles match, setting down Allen, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles before Fernandes clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of Mosher at No. 1.
Miguel Marreiros toppled Maher, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, while Ricardo Marreiros breezed past Foley, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Reichentahl was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 6 against Remillard, with van Biezen capping the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Work.
-The Penmen begin the season 3-0 for the second straight year.
-Southern New Hampshire extends its NE10 winning streak, including the postseason, to 25 straight, dating back to Oct. 15, 2015.
The Penmen are now off until the spring.
