MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team was chosen for the Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday afternoon.
Fernandes, a business administration major with a 3.96 GPA, was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year for the second straight season last month and will look for his second consecutive NE10 Academic All-Conference Team honor next month. Fernandes guided the Penmen to a 16-7 mark, their third straight NE10 Regular-Season and Championship titles, a third consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, and the program's first NCAA postseason win. Fernandes, who was crowned the NE10 Championship's Most Outstanding Player for the second straight year, finished 24-6 in singles play out of the top flight, setting a new program mark for victories in a season, while finishing the campaign by winning 13-in-a-row. He was also 17-10 in doubles action, having his 12-match win streak snapped in the final loss of the year.
The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America® teams announced in June.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams.
