MANSFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) and senior Nicole Gubellini (Salem, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University softball team were named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week Monday, as the league announced its softball weekly award recipients.
Garczynski helped lead the Penmen to wins in four of their six games last week in Florida. She hit .500 (11-for-22) with two home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored. Garczynski compiled a .909 slugging percentage with four extra-base hits during the six-game stretch, and recorded six multi-hit performances. She hammered a go-ahead solo shot in extra innings on Monday to lift Southern New Hampshire past Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 2-1, before driving in all five Penmen runs in a 5-4 triumph over Dominican (N.Y.) College. In 16 games this season, Garczynski is hitting at a .407 clip with three homers and19 RBI while slugging .667.
Gubellini posted a 1-0 mark in the circle for Southern New Hampshire, and generated a 1.24 earned run average in 11.1 innings of work. She made three appearances for the Penmen, and fanned seven while allowing just a pair of earned runs in wins over Embry-Riddle, Dominican and Rollins College. In seven games this season, Gubellini is 3-1 with a 1.22 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.
Southern New Hampshire University is 11-5 through its first 16 games, and returns to action on Saturday (March 25) when it heads to Adelphi University for a Northeast-10 doubleheader slated to begin at noon.
