Game One:  Slippery Rock 5, SNHU 4

The Penmen rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie, but Slippery Rock scored a run in the top of the seventh inning and hung on for a 5-4 win in the season opener for both teams.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when the Rock put together three hits to score two runs.  SNHU picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the frame after senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) walked and scored on an error to cut the Slippery Rock lead to 2-1.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Garczynski (2-for-2) led off with a home run. Junior Jordan Wade (East Taunton, Mass.) followed with a double, scoring on a single by sophomore Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.).   After a single by freshman Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine), SNHU executed a double steal to tie the game at 4-4.

An RBI single by Slippery Rock shortstop Kailey Myers in the top of the seventh inning was the difference in the game.

Junior Maddy Barone (Lexington, Mass.), an 18-game winner last season for SNHU, took the loss (0-1).  She allowed 11 hits in her seven innings, walking one and striking out five.

Game Two:  SNHU 3 Lock Haven 0

Making only her second career start, sophomore Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout.   All four hits allowed were singles, and Strasser (1-0) walked one and struck out six en route to the victory.

The Penmen managed only two hits in the game against the starter for the Bald Eagles, Bekah Slattery, but both were home runs.  In the bottom of the first inning, Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.) homered to make it 1-0.

A two-run shot by junior Gabriella Vachon in the bottom of the second inning accounted for the other runs.
