When and Where: May 10, 2019 – Manchester, N.H. (South Athletic Fields, Saint Anselm College) - NCAA East Regional 1
Game 1:
#20 Saint Anselm College 5, Southern New Hampshire University 0
Game 2: Southern New Hampshire University 7, Georgian Court University 0
Records: SNHU 38-14, Georgian Court 46-11, Saint Anselm 39-8

Junior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout, and sophomore Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) homered twice as the SNHU softball team stayed alive in the NCAA East Regional 1 with a 7-0 win over Georgian Court University.  In the winners bracket to start the day, the Penmen fell 5-0 to 20th-ranked Saint Anselm, and needed to beat the Lions for a second consecutive day, which the team did.  On Saturday, the top-seed Hawks can win the region with one win- Southern New Hampshire will need to take two games.  The rivals start play Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Anselm's South Athletic Fields.

How It Happened:  SNHU 7 Georgian Court 0

- The teams were scoreless going to the fifth inning when the Penmen struck for four runs.  Barone walked and junior Gabriella Vachon (Newton, Mass.) reached on an error, both advancing a base on a wild pitch.  Junior Erin Tyrrell (Milford, N.H.) drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly.  Sophomore Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) and Critch then hit back-to-back homers to make it 4-0.
- Georgian Court did not pick up a hit until the bottom of the sixth inning when Kendalia Turner singled, but was quickly erased on a double play.
- In the top of the seventh inning, Tyrrell singled through the left side, Sauvageau had a bunt single, and Critch homered again.
- Barone one more single, finishing with a two-hitter.  She improved her record to 20-6, and lowered her ERA to 1.18.

Notes:
- Top-seed Saint Anselm defeated SNHU 5-0 in Friday's opening game, scoring all five runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) and Sauvageau each had two hits, but the Penmen were unable to solve Hawks starter Morgan Perry, who improved to 24-5 in the circle.  Sophomore Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) took the loss.
- The Penmen pick up a 38th win on the season, tying the most in a season for SNHU set last year.
- It's the second time this season an SNHU player has hit two homers in a game.  Vachon homered twice against Kutztown on February 17 in Myrtle Beach.

Up Next:
The Penmen and Hawks have already met four times this year, with Saint Anselm winning all of them.  With both Georgian Court and Bridgeport having been eliminated from the tournament, SNHU remains the only team in the way of a repeat regional win for the Hawks.  Since the regional is a double-elimination, SNHU must win twice on Saturday.  If the Penmen prevail in Saturday's 12:30 contest, a second game will follow which would determine the team advancing to next week's Super Regional.
