Penmen Drop 11-8 Decision on the Road

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game Tuesday evening to Merrimack College by a score of 11-8. The Penmen are now 2-5 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Warriors are 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Emily King (Florence, Mass.) led the Penmen with three goals, while Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) recorded a pair of goals and an assist. Lindsay Bucknam (Bow, N.H.), Alexa Allen (East Longmeadow), and Casey Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) each added a goal as well.  

The Penmen jumped to an early 1-0 lead to begin the game when King notched her first score of the game 31 seconds in. However, the Warriors answered, and scored back-to-back goals within seconds of each other to take a 2-1 lead. But, 20 seconds later, Allen scored for SNHU to knot the game up at 2-2. The teams traded the next four goals, with Merrimack scoring twice, and the Penmen following with two tallies at the 12:22 mark. Tied up at 4-4, the hosts scored three consecutive times to take their biggest lead of the game at 7-4 with 3:31 remaining. SNHU was able to cut the three-goal deficit to one when King and Duggan scored a pair of goals with under a minute to cut the lead to 7-6 to end the half.

After a quick Warriors' goal to start the second half, Bucknam and Morin answered with two scores to tie the game at 8-8 with 22:17 remaining. However, at the 19:15 mark, Merrimack netted another tally to take a one-goal lead. The Penmen were unable to score again, and the home team scored two more insurance goals to finish the game.

Maria Ploof (Scarborough, Maine) made four saves in goal for the Penmen, while Inna Hedden turned away seven goals for the Warriors.

The Penmen return to action on Saturday, March 29 when they host Le Moyne College for a 4:00 p.m. league game at Larkin Field.
