Women's Tennis Sweeps NE-10 Weekly Awards

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team swept the Northeast-10 weekly awards announced on Tuesday afternoon.  Junior Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) was named the league's Player of the Week, while freshman Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) was named the league's Freshman of the Week.

Chandronnait won the award after capturing the singles title at the Wilson/ITA East Regional for the second straight year this past weekend.  The tournament's top seed, Chandronnait earned the title with a 7-5, 7-5 win over second-seeded Ola Roberts of Concordia (N.Y.) College.  Roberts held a 5-1 lead in the second set before Chandronnait rallied to win.  With the win, Chandronnait advances to the National Small College Championships in Mobile, Alabama next month.

Mukdaprakorn, a product of Kingswood Oxford School, advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional event.  She bested Jeana Frey of Molloy 6-3, 6-0 in the second round before topping eighth-seeded Maria Mendes of Queens (N.Y.) 6-4, 6-3.  She fell to Roberts in the quarterfinals by a 6-2, 7-5 score.

The SNHU women's tennis team closes out its 2009 fall slate on Sunday when it hosts Franklin Pierce in a 2:00 match.
