Mukdaprakorn, Coache Garner ITA Regional Awards
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region "Player to Watch" it was announced recently. In addition, Penmen head coach Greg Coache was named the ITA's East Region Coach of the Year.
Mukdaprakorn was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year after compiling a 12-0 league record at No. 1 singles in 2011-12, in addition to her 13-0 conference doubles mark. A two-time First Team NE-10 All-Conference performer this season, Mukdaprakorn finished with an overall singles mark of 20-6, while her doubles record stood at 22-6. She enters her senior season third in program history with 58 singles wins, while her 62 doubles triumphs place her second overall, two behind record-holder Catalina Echeverry.
Coache earned ITA Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career on the women's side and the third time overall, as he received the honor as coach of the Penmen men's program in 2011. Coache guided the Penmen to a share of their third-straight NE-10 regular season title, as well as the program's third-straight conference tournament title, and an overall record of 19-6. Southern New Hampshire hosted the NCAA East Regional for the second consecutive year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in a row. In five years as head coach of the women's program, Coache owns a career 77-22 (.778) record.
