Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) and Abla Chadli each won two matches as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team recorded a big regional win against Post University, 6-3, Sunday at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
Loft and Chadli teamed up for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles against Liza Dubrovskaya and Brianna Miah, but the Penmen would lose the two remaining doubles matches, including an 8-6 decision at the No. 3 spot, to head into singles play trailing by one.
Loft, ranked 20th in the region, took down Dubrovskaya, ranked 16th, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, while Chadli made quick work of Madison Young at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory that put SNHU back on top, 3-2.
Freshman Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) recorded her first singles win in a SNHU uniform with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Miah at No. 3 to put the Penmen one win away from victory. After Post pulled within one, freshman Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) recorded a big, 6-4, 6-1 win against Sarah Namazi at No. 6 singles to bring home the match.
Freshman Kaitlyn Poje (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) dropped the first set, 7-5, to Jessica Bergen at No. 5 singles, but roared back to win the final two sets, 6-1, 6-2.
-Southern New Hampshire is No. 7 in the latest ITA East Regional rankings, while Post sits right behind in eighth.
The Penmen are back in action Saturday, April 23 when they play host to Queens (N.Y.) College at 1 p.m.
