Loft Plays Big on Senior Day; Women’s Tennis Falls to #21 Queens (N.Y.), 7-2

Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) played nearly flawlessly at No. 1 singles, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was defeated by 21st-ranked Queens (N.Y.) College, 7-2, in the regular-season finale Saturday on Senior Day at the SNHU Tennis Courts.

Loft, ranked 12th in the ITA East Regional Rankings, dispatched Sumeera Kamil, 6-2, 6-0, in what is likely her final match at home.

Freshman Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) earned the other point for Southern New Hampshire with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Anne Strating at No. 6 singles.

The Penmen were swept in doubles play as Loft and freshman Abla Chadli (Rabat, Morocco) fell, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles, while senior Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) were doubled up, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. Wagner and classmate Kaitlyn Poje (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) were narrowly edged, 8-6, in the No. 3 slot.

-Southern New Hampshire is No. 7 in the latest ITA East Regional rankings, while Queens is second.
-Seniors Loft and Green were honored in a ceremony during the match.
