Women’s Tennis Falls Short of NE10 Final with 5-1 Loss at Adelphi

Juniors Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) and Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) won a doubles point for the third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team, but it suffered a 5-1 loss to second-seeded Adelphi University in the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship on Friday at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.

Trailing, 2-0, in the match, Morais and Wagner posted an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles against Nicole Kielan and Vanja Savic to pull the Penmen within one heading to singles play. In singles play, however, Adelphi won three straight matches, with Vern Cox NE10 Player of the Year Rebecca Fakas clinching the victory for the Panthers with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against junior Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain).

- Sala lost a dual-match singles contest for the first time since Sept. 10 – a span of 11 matches.
- Southern New Hampshire falls to 14-11 (.560) all-time in the Northeast-10 Championship.
- The Penmen, who were playing in their 11th straight NE10 semi, have not advanced to the title match since 2013.
- Adelphi advances to the NE10 title match for the third straight year and will try and defeat top-seeded Stonehill College for the third time.
