Senior Sahara Brown (Center Barnstead, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team was the top NCAA Division II finisher in the javelin throw Friday, as the Penmen competed in the 2017 New England Outdoor Championships on the campus of Williams College.

Brown, who captured the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference javelin championship a week ago, registered an official distance of 42.97 meters (141 feet) to finish fourth overall. She checked in behind only Moriah Morton of Dartmouth College (45.65m), Mareena Dimilia of Sacred Heart University (44.89m) and Hannah Madison of the University of Rhode Island (43.34m). Brown moved up six places from the 2016 New England Championships, and increased her distance by 4.23 meters (13 feet, 11 inches). The event featured 24 student-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III.

Notes:
- After four scored events, Northeastern University leads the way with 26.50 points. The Huskies are followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (21) and the University of New Hampshire (20).
- Freshmen Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) and Natalie Gallagher (Windham, N.H.) both took part in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries on Friday. Murphy clocked a time of 15.03 seconds, while Gallagher completed the event in 16.39 seconds.

What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire wraps up the 2017 New England Outdoor Championships Saturday (May 13). Murphy will compete in the triple jump, sophomore Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) will partake in the discus throw and freshman Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) will race in the 800-meter run.
