The Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team opened up the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, and the Penmen sit 11th after one day of competition.
SNHU accumulated three points in Saturday's scoring competitions. Senior Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) finished seventh with a toss of 15.09m (49' 6.25"). That earned the team two points. Elder will be one of the favorites in Sunday's shot put competition.
The Southern New Hampshire distance medley relay team picked up one point on Saturday, as it finished eighth overall. The contingent of freshman Grace Henson (Cumberland, R.I.), freshman Meghan Stroh (New Fairfield, Conn.), freshman Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) passed the baton in 12:52.68.
Freshman Kate Hall (Pawcutuck, Conn.) ran the eighth fastest time in Saturday's 200m preliminaries and will earn points for her team.
The Penmen women's track and field team wraps up its 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Championship appearance Sunday on the campus of Smith College with events beginning at 10 a.m.
