The opening set was even at 10 apiece when a 9-0 burst gave New Haven a 19-10 advantage it would maintain through the end of the set.
In set No. 2, Southern New Hampshire jumped out to 6-0 lead on a pair of kills from Wehrmann, but New Haven charged back to take a 13-10 lead before closing the frame with a 12-4 rush.
In the final set, a pair of kills and two blocks from junior Carolyn Scacchi (Peabody, Mass.) helped the Penmen build an 8-4 lead, but a 7-2 counter-run gave the Chargers an 11-10 edge. A 4-1 spurt – with kills from Wehrmann, junior Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) and senior Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) – put Southern New Hampshire back in front, 14-12, but New Haven ripped off 10 straight points to seize a 22-14 lead before cruising to the win.
Coronis matched Wehrmann's team-high eight kills and added five digs and three blocks. Salamun recorded six kills and hit .250. Freshman Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) dished out 22 assists and tallied seven digs, while junior Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) collected 18 digs.
-New Haven has now won seven of its last eight, including three straight.
-The Chargers outhit Southern New Hampshire in all three sets, as well as, .380-.089, for the match.
The Penmen return to action Saturday, Nov. 5 (1 p.m.) when they take on American International College. The next home match for SNHU is Friday, Nov. 11 when it plays host to Pace University at the Fieldhouse.
