Kills from Costales and junior Jessica Dillon (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) staked Southern New Hampshire to an early 4-1 lead in set No. 2. Assumption would total up five straight points as part of a 9-3 counter-run that trimmed the deficit to just 20-18, but a Costales kill and service ace from fellow sophomore Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) highlighted a 4-0 spurt that gave SNHU match-point. Following two Assumption points, an attack error evened the match, 1-1.
Assumption built a 14-7 advantage in the third set before an 11-4 blitz – bookended by Coronis kills, left the score tied at 18. A big run that included three kills from Costales would put the Penmen on top, and they eventually led, 25-24, when three straight points from Assumption stole the set and gave it a 2-1 lead in the match.
A pair of kills by junior Priscila Castro (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) to begin the fourth set gave SNHU a quick 4-2 edge, but with the lead then 10-7, an 8-3 run from the Greyhounds leapt them in front, 15-13. A Coronis kill temporarily halted the bleeding, but a 10-6 run for Assumption capped both the set and the match.
