SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Thomas Quicker (West Islip, N.Y.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the NE-10 office Monday afternoon.
Quicker, a third baseman who came to SNHU via Saint John the Baptist HS, batted .343 in eight games last week with five runs scored, a home run and three runs batted in. He hit safely in all but one game and had three hits apiece against Nova Southeastern and in a win against UMass Lowell Sunday. In the UML win, the first for the Penmen over the River Hawks since 2002, Quicker drove in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth of the 5-4 triumph.
On the season, Quicker is one of two players to start all 19 games for the Penmen. He is batting .268 with three doubles and five RBI.
Southern New Hampshire is scheduled to return to action Wednesday when it hosts UMass Lowell in a 3:30 contest.
