2018-2019 cheer team at Daytona, FL.

(Daytona Beach, Fla.) - The SNHU Cheer squad recorded the highest point total in program history, advancing to today's finals at the NCA National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.  The Penmen scored a 92.3667.  SNHU is competing against other All-Girl Division II squads at the NCA.

Head Coach Michelle McCarty pass along this recap Friday morning from Florida:

"Upon arrival in Daytona, Florida the Southern New Hampshire University Cheerleading team were eager to start their official practice day on Wednesday April 3rd.  Dressed to impress and together as one unit they made their way to the Ocean Center to prove that they are here for a reason. Upon the lawn on the arena is where they warmup and got their mindset ready to begin. Their stunts ready to go and the anticipation of entering the Ocean Center upon them. By midday, cool, calm and collected they made their 15 minutes of practice worth every second. Their game day caught the attention of others and their routine went with a few minor hiccups. A well-known California Baptist University Coach came to speak to the SNHU cheerleaders. She had invited them to practice later on in the day with the other big-name teams.

On the day of the prelims, Thursday, the team could not be more excited. This competition is what they had prepared so long for. Up by seven in the morning the team got ready for their performance. Day one is always the toughest as the Ocean Center is known for teams not hitting their routines perfectly. However, that was not the case for this little team from New Hampshire. Minds clear and focused, they were ready. Warmups could not have been any better for this team. They shook out their nerves and waited for Head Coach Michelle McCarty to count over the commotion inside. With the help of others counting everything went just right. The walk to behind the stage is shorter than past years. They circled up and the captains gave words of encouragement to calm down the newbies. The announcer called their name and it was go time. It was a perfect routine. The squad received the highest score in program history with a 92.3667."
