Plymouth State Rallies for 3-2 Hockey Victory

BOX SCORE

HOOKSETT, N.H. - Seth McQuade (Manchester, NH) totaled a goal and two assists as visiting Plymouth State University scored twice in the first 3:43 of the third period to take a 3-2 ECAC-Northeast hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire University at The Ice Den Wednesday night.  The Panthers snapped a four-game slide and improved to 5-8-2 and 2-3-1 in league play, while the Penmen are 8-6-1 and 5-4-1 in the league.

Plymouth trailed 2-1 heading into the third period, but would tie the score just 1:36 into the stanza when McQuade scored a power play goal on assists from Kyle Tobin (Kanata, ONT) and David Rose (Haddon Township, NJ).  The Panthers would notch the eventual game-winner at the 3:43 mark when Bobby Dashner (Hyde Park, MA) scored.  His goal was assisted by Dave Dufresne (Dracut, MA) and McQuade.

The Penmen would get a chance to tie the game with 7:28 left when Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH) was pulled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot.  Bryant's attempt clanged off the left post.  SNHU would pull goalie Matt Courchesne (Bow, NH) with 1:04 left in favor of an extra attacker but the hosts could not come up with the equalizer.

SNHU took a 1-0 lead 6:28 into the game when Bryant scored off a rebound of a blocked shot.  Ed Montgomery (Colchester, VT) and Evan Williams (Gilford, NH) assisted on the goal.  Plymouth would tie the game 1:20 before the first intermission on a Chris Chambers power play (Crofton, MD) tally.  The Penmen would notch the lone goal of the second period when Brandon Sheehan (Bedford, MA) scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal that bounced off the pad of PSU netminder Karl Helgesson (Lerum, Sweden).

Helgesson made 40 saves en route to the win for Plymouth State as the Penmen outshot the Panthers 42-27.  Courchesne made 24 stops for SNHU.  The Panthers were 2-6 with the power play while SNHU was 0-3 with the man advantage.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to UMass-Dartmouth for a 4:30 contest.
