SNHU Softball Claims Two Weekly NE10 Awards


MANSFIELD, Mass.– Senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) and junior pitcher Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University softball team were selected as the Northeast-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 17, the league office announced Monday.

Garczynski hit .556 over the eight games (15-for-27) with seven RBI. Six of her hits were doubles. She had hits in all eight games, at least two hits in five of the games and had two three-hit games for the Penmen, who went 7-1 for the week. Garczynski scored three runs, stole a base and posted a perfect fielding percentage on 53 chances this past week.
For the season, Garczynski is hitting .450, leading the team with 27 hits and 15 RBI.  
Barone went 4-0 with a 0.50 ERA in her four starts during the week, all complete games. She pitched a pair of three-hit shutouts over Caldwell and West Chester, and allowed just one earned run in her two starts over Molloy and Minnesota-Duluth.  She had 31 strikeouts in 28 innings.
Barone started the first game each day on the road trip, compiling a 5-0 record.  For the season, she is 6-1 with a 1.44 ERA.  She has 54 strikeouts in 63 innings this season.

The 22nd-ranked Penmen completed a 9-3 trip to the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida with two six consecutive wins.  The team is 14-4 on the season.

Garczynski, Barone and the Penmen return to action on Wednesday, March 20 (3/5 p.m.) in the Northeast-10 conference opening doubleheader at Franklin Pierce.
The first home games are scheduled for Sunday, March 24 (12 p.m.) when the Penmen host Queens College in a doubleheader at the SNHU Softball Field.
