ROLLA, Mo. – Junior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University softball team was chosen as a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-America Honorable Mention, recently.
Barone is the program's second All-American and first since her pitching coach, Ali Maloof, who was an Honorable Mention in 2014 and a First Team selection in 2015.
Barone, both a Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) East All-Region and NE10 All-Conference First Team selection, started 30 of the 33 contests she took the ball for in the circle, going 20-7 with one save and a 1.25 ERA. In 206-and-two-thirds innings, she allowed only 163 hits, while striking out 182 and walking just 35. She went the distance on 23 occasions and twirled nine shutouts, allowing fewer than two runs in 21 of her appearances. A league-best, three-time NE10 Pitcher of the Week this season, Barone led the conference in ERA and innings pitched, while ranking second in appearances, complete games and shutouts, third in wins and strikeouts, fourth in strikeouts per game (6.16) and seventh in batting average against (.214). Barone placed seventh, nationally, in ERA. She also got it done in the classroom, earning Google Cloud Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year.
The 38-15 Penmen, ranked as high as No. 13 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Poll, won 22 straight games at one point during the season and advanced to the finals of the NCAA East 1 Regional.
