SNHU Women's Track & Field senior Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) will head to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships later this month to compete in the shot put competition.

During the outdoor season, which started in March, Elder had her best throw in the 2nd Annual Penmen Relays.  Her throw of 14.82m (48' 8") has her with the 21st best performance in the nation.  She received word on Tuesday that she had qualified for the NCAA Outdoor meet in the shot put.  The shot put competition is scheduled to be contested on Saturday, May 25 at 2:15 p.m. (Eastern Time).

It's been a terrific senior season for the talented athlete.   With her first throws of the 2018-19 indoor season, Elder served notice that she was going to be a force in the shot put.  Her first attempt of the season, at the opening meet at UMass-Boston on December 1, sailed 14.49m.  That toss was good enough to meet NCAA provisional qualifying standings.  Her second attempt went 14.93m, a new personal mark and new program record.  Elder won that meet in Boston, and recorded first-place finishes in the shot put in the four meets that followed.  She finished the indoor season with seven wins, and two other top ten finishes in events that featured Division I athletes.

At the Northeast-10 Championships on February 17, Elder tossed a 15.13m at Smith College, establishing new personal and program records.  Elder's throw was the 10th best in the nation during the indoor season, according to the seeding chart released by the NCAA.  She became the first SNHU athlete to qualify for the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships.
