Couto Races to All-Conference Spot, Women’s Cross Country Runs Seventh at NE10 Championship

Sophomore Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) cruised across the finish line in 22:34.10 on Sunday to finish No. 13 overall, and lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team to a seventh-place showing at the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Cross Country Championship at Stanley Park in Westfield, Massachusetts.

Couto's efforts landed her on the All-NE10 Second Team, which marks the first time in her career she garnered All-Conference recognition. She improved her performance by 24 spots from a season ago.

Sophomore Madison Brand (Valhalla, N.Y) was next in for the Penmen in 24:05.29, and classmate Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.) followed with a time of 24:15.97. After freshman Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) crossed the line in 24:22.50, junior Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) traversed the course in 24:26.17 to round of the Southern New Hampshire top-five.

Senior Maddie Bardier (Pembroke, N.H.) navigated the terrain in 26:27.80 to finish sixth for SNHU, and junior Courtney Burrell (Meredith, N.H.) concluded the Penmen contingent in 26:50.65. 

- The Penmen improved four spots from the 2016 NE10 Championship, and earn a top-10 spot for the fourth time in five seasons.
- Stonehill College captured the team title with a combined total of 39 points. The Skyhawks were followed by Assumption College (41), Merrimack College (157), Le Moyne College (160) and American International College (165).
- Stonehill senior Emily Knox took home the individual crown in a time of 21:37.02.

What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire is back in action on November 4 when it travels to Daemen College for the 2017 NCAA Division II East Regional Championships in Amherst, New York.
