MANSFIELD, Mass. – Seniors Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team and Jim Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) of the men's ice hockey team have been selected to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Team for their respective sports, the league office announced Wednesday.
Doherty, who was also recognized with the honor during the 2013-14 season, started all 27 games this season as she averaged 8.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 45.4 percent from the field. Doherty, who is currently pursuing her MBA, ranked second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, while placing third in field goal percentage. The two-time captain has made the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in all seven semesters.
Gabrione collects the honor for the third consecutive season after compiling 23 points on eight goals and 15 assists in 26 games. The business administration major tied for third in the Northeast-10 in assists, tied for fifth in goals and power-play points and tied for 11th in points. The two-time captain has also made the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll all seven semesters.
To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 24 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
