MANCHESTER, N.H. – Graduate student Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) and junior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball and softball team, respectively, were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), on Thursday.

Walkinshaw, who is pursuing his Master's degree in Business Management and owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, was one of 12 members of the team for District 1, which includes the Northeast-10, East Coast Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Walkinshaw claimed the first NE10 All-Conference First Team honor of his career earlier this month, after going 7-1 with a 1.90 ERA in 13 appearances, including 12 starts. He has allowed just 62 hits, while striking out 91 and walking 27, in 85-and-two-thirds innings. Walkinshaw, who has held batters to a .207 average against him, has gone the distance twice and limited opponents to two runs or less in nine starts. Walkinshaw leads the league in wins, while placing second in innings pitched, third in strikeouts, fourth in ERA and sixth in strikeouts per game (9.61). He was named the NE10 Pitcher of the Week on four occasions this season, while no other pitcher in the league won the award more than once. Walkinshaw is ninth in innings and 10th in strikeouts in the program's single-season record book.

Barone earns the honor of the second straight season and is one of 13 players to represent District 1. Barone, a mathematics major with a 3.93 GPA, has started 28 of the 31 contests she has taken the ball for in the circle. Barone, both a Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) East All-Region and NE10 All-Conference First Team selection, is 19-6 with one save and a 1.22 ERA. In 195 innings, she has allowed one 154 hits, while striking out 178 and walking just 31. She has gone the distance on 22 occasions and twirled eight shutouts, allowing fewer than two runs in 20 of her appearances. A league-best, three-time NE10 Pitcher of the Week this season, Barone paces the conference in ERA, while ranking second in innings pitched, complete games and shutouts, third in wins and strikeouts, fourth in strikeouts per game (6.39) and seven in batting average against (.213).

The CoSIDA Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The program separately recognizes baseball and softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
