MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis, women's tennis, women's volleyball and men's ice hockey teams earned Northeast-10 Team Academic Excellence Award honors, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon, for owning the highest GPA in their respective sport during the 2018-19 season.
SNHU's four honorees, which are the most in the department's history, match Adelphi University and Pace University, while trailing Bentley University's five winners for most in the 22-sport league this season.
Men's tennis and ice hockey were two of just three teams in the entire league to receive the distinction after also winning an NE10 title this season. Men's tennis repeated the feat after doing the same a year ago, with ice hockey joining its 2013-14 squad in winning a conference championship and Team Academic Excellence Award in the same season.
Men's tennis posted the highest GPA of all 292 teams in the conference for the second straight year with a 3.737. It is also the second consecutive season and second time, overall, the team garnered the award.
Women's tennis posted a 3.688 GPA to win the honor for the second time and first since 2009-10.
Volleyball collected the accolade for the third straight season and the third time, overall, since the award was established in 2009-10 with a 3.574 GPA.
Ice hockey claimed its department-best fifth award (2009-10, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16) with a 3.386 GPA, earning the honor for the fourth time in the last six years.
