Tom Wilkins began his tenure as Associate Director of Athletics in November, 2013. His duties include athletic communications, development, alumni relations, academic services, sport oversight (field hockey, ice hockey, golf, lacrosse, cheer), marketing, television, radio and promotions for all varsity sports. Additionally, Wilkins oversees major events for the department, including the Hall of Fame ceremony, as well as the annual Senior Student-Athlete Awards banquet. Additionally, he served as the interim compliance director in the winter of 2015 and again in the spring of 2019.
Wilkins serves on the NCAA Hockey Playing Rules Committee and was a member of the East Regional Advisory Committee for NCAA selection for men's golf until 2018.
During his time at SNHU, Wilkins has helped develop a first-of-its-kind multi-sport television package, which ran on NESN from 2014-16 and now nationally on FOX College Sports. Similarly, he helped develop a comprehensive basketball radio package with WGIR-AM 610. Additionally, he helped enhance the video streaming network with over 125 live events in addition to the games on national TV. Wilkins has also worked on two different redesigns with PrestoSports.
Wilkins chaired the search committees for the assistant AD for compliance (twice) and head coaching searches for men's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's lacrosse and ice hockey and also selected a pair of athletic communication administrators.
From a marketing standpoint, Wilkins launched the "It's Game Day" campaign, which helped yield record crowds in multiple sports. The Penmen led the nation in attendance in men's soccer in 2014 and the men's basketball team had a pair of sellouts in the Northeast-10 playoffs in 2017.
Prior to SNHU, Wilkins spent six years at the University of New Hampshire, earning a pair of promotions as he was elevated to Associate AD for Communications in the summer of 2011, after spending the previous three years as Assistant AD. He oversaw the office of athletic communications, supervising a full-time staff of five as well as student interns, charged with executing UNH’s media and public relations efforts while he serves as the primary contact for the nationally-prominent men’s ice hockey program. He was also the executive producer of UNH Wildcat Productions, the athletic department’s production entity that broadcasts over 100 live games through regional and national television and web streaming platforms, as well as a monthly magazine show and countless video features.
In addition to his communications duties, Wilkins served on the UNH Athletic Director’s Strategic Initiatives Management Team and has served as a chair on UNH’s athletics’ strategic planning committee. He served as a liaison with Learfield Sports, which manages the UNH Wildcat Radio Network, and manages all television and radio advertising for the athletic department.
Before UNH, he served as the Director of Communications for the America East Conference where he oversaw the promotion of all 20 sports for the Division I league. From 2004-06, Wilkins was the Assistant Sports Information Director at Quinnipiac University, serving as the primary media contact for men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and golf.
Wilkins started his career at UNH in 2003-04 as an Athletic Media Relations Assistant, working with the men’s soccer and men’s basketball programs.
A native of Pelham, N.H., Wilkins graduated from Assumption College in 2003 cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and History, while he went on to earn his Master’s in Interactive Communications at Quinnipiac.
