STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Sophomore Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.) was also 2-for-3 and scored a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Goldstein put Southern New Hampshire in front, 1-0, with one out in the bottom of the third when he belted a solo shot to left.
  • The Penmen threatened again in the fifth when Goldstein led off with the a double to the gap in right-center and moved to third on a grounder to the right side, but a fly out to center ended the inning.
  • SNHU doubled its lead in the eighth, as three straight singles from Taveras, junior Tom Blandini (Bow, N.H.) and redshirt-sophomore Marcus Chavez (Queens, N.Y.) loaded the bases to begin the frame. Sophomore Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.) added the insurance run with a sacrifice fly to center, before the Penmen had a runner cut down at the plate on a fielder's choice grounder and would leave a pair.
  • It would not matter, as Walkinshaw fired his fifth 1-2-3 inning of the game in the top of the ninth.
