van der Doorn Named NE10 Field Hockey Player of the Week for Second Time

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Senior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) of the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, as the league announced its weekly award recipients.

van der Doorn led the Penmen to an unbeaten week with a pair of game-winning goals in two games against NE10 opposition. She opened the week by tallying what proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Bentley University Wednesday before hammering home an overtime winner over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday. van der Doorn is currently tied for the Northeast-10 Conference lead in goals (11) and points (26) through 13 games, and ranks in the top-10 nationally in both goals per game (.85) and points per game (2.00).

Southern New Hampshire, ranked No. 9 in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) Division II national poll, improved to 10-3 on the year with a 7-0 win over Molloy College on Monday. The Penmen are back in action Saturday (October 19) when they head to the University of New Haven for a 1 p.m. start.
