Freshman Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.) delivered a pinch-hit, go-ahead infield single in the bottom of the fourth to cap a two-run rally and send the Southern New Hampshire University softball team past Bentley University, 3-2, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division action at the SNHU Softball Field on Friday.

After the Falcons pushed across their second run of the contest to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth, the Penmen took the lead for good in the home half of the frame. Junior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) led off the inning with a double down the left field line before senior Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) followed with a base hit through the right side to put runners on the corners. Two batters later, freshman Jackie Gavin (Laconia, N.H.) smacked a ball down the first base line that was scooped up by the Bentley fielder just in front of the first base bag. Gavin stopped in the middle of the base path, and as the first baseman applied the tag, Garczynski scampered home with the tying run and pinch runner Logan Filo-Loos (Dudley, Mass.) cruised into third. Mathieu stepped in next and flared a ball towards the middle of the diamond that the Falcons' shortstop dove for, but was unable to reel in and allowed Filo-Loos to cross with what proved to be the winning run.

Southern New Hampshire jumped out to an early lead with a single run in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Jordan Wade (East Taunton, Mass.) led off with a base hit before moving up to second on a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) dug in next and drilled a 1-1 offering to the wall in left that scored Wade and staked the hosts to a 1-0 advantage.

Juliana Romeo single-handedly brought Bentley back even before giving the Falcons a 2-1 edge. Romeo reset the contest in the top of the second when she led the stanza off with a solo shot to make it 1-1. After Catie Noons started the fourth with a walk and advanced to third by way of a wild pitch and groundout, Romeo tagged an RBI single into left that brought home Noons with the go-ahead run.

Sophomore Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) earned the win in the circle for the Penmen after fanning six and allowing two runs on four hits in the first 6.2 innings. Freshman Ali Atherton (Milford, Mass.) nailed down the save by inducing a groundout to the only batter she faced.

- Sauvageau has now reached base safely in 13 of her last 15 games dating back to March 17. Over that span she is hitting .415 (17-for-41) with a .442 on-base percentage while slugging .561.
- Lauren Calabrese was tagged with the loss for Bentley after surrendering three runs on six hits in four innings of work. Kayleigh Fitzpatrick entered for the final two innings and allowed just one hit.
- The Penmen have now won six of their last nine.
