MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's golf team was picked to finish as the runner-up at the 2019 Northeast-10 Championship, according to the NE10 Coaches' Poll released by the league office Thursday afternoon. The Penmen, who have never placed higher than third at the league championships, received one first-place vote and totaled 28 points.

The 2019 Northeast-10 Women's Golf Championship begins Sunday (October 13) at the Shenendoah Golf Course at Turning Stone in Verona, N.Y., and concludes with the final round Monday.

Franklin Pierce University was a unanimous pick to win the title, collecting six first-place votes and 36 total points. Stonehill College and Assumption College tied for the No. 3 spot with 21 points, while Le Moyne College (19) and the College of Saint Rose (16) slotted in fifth and sixth, respectively. Adelphi University (6) rounded out the poll in seventh.

The Penmen are in search of their first Northeast-10 Championship in their sixth year of existence as a program. SNHU is in the midst of its best year in program history, finishing as the runner-up at two tournaments and pocketing third-place showings at the remaining two. The squad also set a new single-round record with a 311 in the final round of the Le Moyne Fall Invitational on Sept. 15.

SNHU returns three of its five championship participants from a season ago, all of whom finished in the top-20 of the event. Sophomore Hannah May (Phoenix, Ariz.) placed fourth, overall, last year, while junior Makyla Lewellen (Zainesville, Ohio) and graduate student Morgan Mitchell (Charlton, Mass.) were 15th and 19th, respectively. Freshman Gabby Thomas (Johnstown, Ohio) and sophomore Anna Casagrande (Pelham, Mass.) will be first-time NE10 Championship participants for the Penmen.
