MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was selected as both the Northeast-10 Player and Rookie of the Week for the period ending Oct. 6, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Hubickova, who sweeps the weekly awards for the third straight week, went 5-1 during a 3-0 week for the Penmen, including 2-1 at No. 1 singles. Hubickova started the week with her first singles loss of the season, falling to Assumption College's Julia Chappell, 6-3, 6-1, in a 5-2 triumph on Tuesday. She bounced back with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Stonehill College's Christina Solorzano Valencia in a 4-3 victory Saturday, before breezing past Saint Michael's College's Abby Ramsay, 6-1, 6-0 in Sunday's 6-1 win. Hubickova also teamed with sophomore Alexxa Etienne for three No. 1 doubles wins, including 6-2 over Chappell and Maria Monje, 6-0 against Stonehill's Alexandra Vo and Samantha Ormesher, and 6-3 versus Ramsay and Caroline Sumner.
Hubickova and the Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 12 (12 p.m.) when they take on the University of New Haven at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.
