MANSFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was crowned the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 13, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Etienne, who makes it four straight weeks the Penmen have earned NE10 Player of the Week honors, went a perfect 6-0, including 3-0 in singles play, during a 3-0 week for SNHU. Etienne posted a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Le Moyne College's Francesca Lilliegren at No. 3 on Monday, then handed the University of New Haven's Nicole Mika, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 on Saturday, before moving up to No. 2 on Sunday for a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Daemen College's Christina Stasiuk. Etienne also combined with freshman Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) for a trio of No. 1 doubles wins. The duo outlasted Lilliegren and Birdem Oz, 7-6 (7-3), doubled up Mika and Lilia Rodriguez, 6-3, and held off Stasiuk and Lena Gruber, 7-6 (8-6).
