Sophomore Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) turned in a pair of top-five finishes and junior Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) finished second in the shot put on Sunday to lift the Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team to a top-10 finish at the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Penmen totaled 27 points to finish eighth overall.
Murphy totaled 10 points individually and was a member of the 4x400-meter relay contingent that generated one point. In the 60-meter hurdles, Murphy clocked an official time of 9.31 seconds, which was the fourth-fastest time in the event. She followed that with another fourth-place performance in the triple jump after propelling herself a distance of 11.44 meters (37'6.5"). Freshman Megan Decker (Durham, Conn.), junior Sydney Blais (Pascoag, R.I.) and sophomore Megan Eugene (Everett, Mass.) joined Murphy in the 4x400-meter relay, which saw Southern New Hampshire complete the event in four minutes, 12.90 seconds.
Elder secured eight points of her own in the shot put, as she finished in the top-five in the event for the seventh time this year and the sixth top-two showing this season. She unloaded a throw of 13.46 meters (44'2") to slot in second overall and just .21 meters (8.25") outside the top spot.
Southern New Hampshire continued its strong performance in the relays in the 4x800-meter relay. Sophomore Madison Brand (Valhalla, N.Y.), classmate Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.), senior Maddie Bardier (Pembroke, N.H.) and sophomore Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) matriculated the baton around the track in 9:55.76 to finish third in the event and generate six points for the Penmen.
- Stonehill College captured the women's team title for the fifth consecutive year. The Skyhawks compiled 165 points, and were followed in the top-five by Southern Connecticut State University (118), American International College (99), Assumption College (91) and Merrimack College (54).
- The Penmen improved their finish four places from last year's NE10 Indoor Track and Field Championships, their first year participating.
Southern New Hampshire continues its schedule on March 3 when it takes part in the Tufts Lst Chance Meet at Tufts University.
