Junior Ashley Elder (Bristol, Conn.) won a pair of events Saturday, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's track and field team took part in the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary College.
Elder won the shot put with a heave of 13.17 meters (43 feet, 2.5 inches), outdistancing the runner-up by 1.35 meters (4 feet, 5 inches). She also captured the discus with a throw of 37.41 meters (122 feet, 9 inches) that put her 5.15 meters (16 feet, 11 inches) ahead of the closest competitor.
Sophomore Alanna Murphy (Nashua, N.H.) finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.77 seconds, while also placing eighth in the 100 meters (13.84) and 10th in the 200 (27.97).
Fellow sophomore Natalie Gallagher (Windham, N.H.) slotted in fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of one minute, 11.69 seconds, while finishing seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.76) and ninth in the 100 meters (14.18).
Sophomore Sam Cummings (Peabody, Mass.) turned in a seventh-place showing in the 400 meters (1:04.87), while junior Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) completed the 5,000 meters in a time of 20:22.77 to finish 10th.
- In addition to William and Mary, the Tribe Invitational included Cleveland State University, George Mason University and Christopher Newport University.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday, March 31 when it hosts the SNHU Spring Invitational.
