Sophomore Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) ran to her second straight individual victory Saturday to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the fifth annual Bruce Kirsch Cup at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds.
Couto completed the 6K course in a time of 22:39.0, outpacing her next closest competitor by 13.3 seconds.
Southern New Hampshire saw two more of its runners finish inside the top 10, as sophomore Madison Brand (Valhalla, N.Y.) and junior Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) placed ninth and 10th, respectively, with times of 24:52.3 and 25:03.2.
Graduate student Emily Loughlin (Jaffrey, N.H.) was not far behind in 11th, crossing the finish line at 25:07.6. Sophomore Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring Penmen with a 14th-place showing, clocking in at 25:41.9.
Freshman Maddy Anctil (Amherst, N.H.) completed the Penmen contingent with an official time of 34:05.6.
- Couto's first career individual victory came last Saturday at the Vermont Tech Invitational.
- Bentley University took home the team title with 35 points after placing four of its five scoring student-athletes in the top-10.
- The race consisted of 37 student-athletes from five institutions.
The Penmen are back in action next Saturday (Oct. 7) when they take part in the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.
