EASTON, Mass. - Host Stonehill College struck twice in a
seven-minute span midway through the first half as it posted a 3-0
Northeast-10 women's soccer victory over Southern New Hampshire
University Saturday. The Skyhawks won their third straight to
improve to 6-4-2 overall and 6-2-2 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen
are now 5-9-1 and 3-7 in the league.
The Skyhawks opened the scoring in
the 32nd minute when Lauren Boyd knocked in a loose ball in front
of the net following a scramble. The hosts made it 2-0 at the
38:21 mark when Erin Baiznet took a throw-in from Hilary Eckhardt
and punched it in. Stonehill added an insurance goal at the
61:45 mark when Kirstie St. Martin added an unassisted tally on a
breakaway.
Alex Eckhardt made three saves en
route to the shutout for Stonehill, while Southern New Hampshire
keeper Stef Young (Natick, MA) stopped eight shots
as the Skyhawks outshot the Penmen 24-8.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Tuesday evening when it hosts Saint Michael's College in a
7:00 match at Larkin Field.
