HOOKSETT, N.H. - Southern New Hampshire University and
Western New England College skated to a 1-1 tie in an ECAC
Northeast hockey contest Tuesday night at The Ice Dean. The
Penmen moved to 1-0-1 overall and in league play, while the Golden
Bears earned their first point of the season, moving to 0-5-1
overall and 0-1-1 in the league.
Both teams would score in the third
period. The Penmen would take advantage of a 5-on-3 situation
midway through the stanza when Ryan DiBartolomeo
(Leominster, MA) slid a pass over to John Frey
(Westminster, CO) in the left faceoff circle, who one-timed it to
give SNHU the 1-0 advantage. Josh Goodman
(Highland Mills, NY) also assisted on the goal, Frey's second of
the season. The Golden Bears would score just over five
minutes later in a 4-on-4 situation. David Smith (Columbus,
IN) sniped a shot from just inside the blue line that beat SNHU
goalie Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, ME) high and to
the right. Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) assisted on the goal.
Brooks stopped 30 shots in his
collegiate debut for the Penmen, while WNEC netminder Kyle Sagnella
(East Haven, CT) turned aside 33 shots. Southern New
Hampshire was 1-8 on the power play, while Western New England came
up empty on seven extra-man opportunities.
