BOSTON - Fitchburg State College posted a 5-0 men's ice
hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire University in the first
round of the Codfish Bowl hosted by UMass Boston Friday
afternoon. The Falcons improved to 6-3-2 overall and will
face either the host Beacons or Suffolk in Saturday's championship
game at 5:00. The Penmen are now 6-2-1 overall and will face
the loser of Friday's second game at 2:00.
Matt Arsenault recorded a hat trick
for Fitchburg State with three goals while Andrew Jones and Chris
Riggs also added goals. Bob Kalousian handed out three
assists for the Falcons.
Arsenault tallied his first two
goals 2:01 apart late in the first period, the first coming at the
15:47 mark. The Falcons made it 3-0 midway through the second
on Riggs' goal. It remained a 3-0 game until late in the
third when Jones scored at the 17:27 mark and Arsenault completed
his hat trick at 18:27 with a power play tally.
Devan McConnell made 26 saves en
route to the shutout for Fitchburg State, while Shane
Brooks (Kennebunk, ME) made 24 stops for the Penmen as the
Falcons generated a 29-26 shot advantage. Fitchburg was 2-11
on the power play while the Penmen were 0-4.
