BOSTON - John Frey's (Westminster, CO) goal 2:15 into
overtime lifted Southern New Hampshire University to a 4-3 victory
over Suffolk University in the third place game of the Codfish Bowl
hosted by UMass Boston Saturday afternoon. The Penmen
improved to 7-2-1 overall, while the Rams are now 7-6-0 on the
season.

DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA) each had a goal and an
assist for the Penmen, while Brandon Hammermeister
(Calgary, ALB) handed out a pair of assists. Corey
Hamblett (Milton, VT) and Evan Williams
(Gilford, NH) had SNHU's other goals. Dan Pencinger led
Suffolk with two goals and an assist.
Frey's game-winner came 2:15 into
the five-minute extra session. He took a pass from
Hammermeister and put it home for his sixth goal of the
season. DiBartolomeo also assisted on the goal, which was the
Penmen's lone even strength tally of the game.
Suffolk jumped out to a 2-0 first
period lead on goals by Pencinger and Ryan Collins, but the Penmen
would strike three times on the power play in a span of 1:11 to
take a 3-2 lead in the second period. Williams and
DiBartolomeo each scored on a five-minute major at the 10:23 and
10:58 marks, respectively, then Hamblett put SNHU on top at 11:34
on another Suffolk penalty with an assist credited to Dave
Carroll (Arlington, MA).
The Rams would tie the game with 35
seconds left before the second intermission when Pencinger scored
on the power play. Neither team would find the back of the
net in the third period.
Matt Courchesne
(Bow, NH) made 14 saves for Southern New Hampshire to improve to
4-0-0 on the season as the Penmen outshot Suffolk 43-17. Jeff
Rose made 39 stops for the Rams. SNHU was 3-10 on the power
play while Suffolk finished 1-6 with the man advantage.
SNHU returns to action January 12
when it travels to Franklin Pierce University for a 4:30 contest.
