WINCHENDON, Mass. - Ed Montgomery
(Colchester, VT) and Bob Bryant (Nashua, NH) each
totaled a goal and an assist to lead Southern New Hampshire
University to a 5-3 hockey victory over Franklin Pierce University
Saturday afternoon at The Winchendon School. The Penmen
improve to 8-2-1 on the season, while the Ravens drop to 4-11 on
the year.
Troy Maybury
(South Portland, ME) and John Frey (Westminster,
CO) each had two assists for the Penmen, who also got goals from
Ryan DiBartolomeo (Leominster, MA), Phil
LaCasse (Concord, NH) and Brandon Sheehan
(Bedford, MA).
Three different players scored for
Franklin Pierce.
SNHU trailed 2-1 after the first
intermission when it got three goals in the second to make it
4-2. Bryant tied the game with his second goal of the season
at the 3:51 mark, then LaCasse put the Penmen on top 8:14 into the
period. DiBartolomeo would record the game-winner on a power
play at the 12:41 mark.
Phil LaBreck would cut the SNHU
lead in half for the Ravens on an unassisted tally 34 seconds into
the final frame. Montgomery would add an power play empty net
goal with 30 seconds remaining.
Eric Spalt gave FPU a 1-0 lead 8:34
into the first period on an unassisted goal, but the Penmen would
tie the game at the 17:24 mark on Sheehan's goal. The tie was
short-lived as the Ravens reclaimed the lead 1:15 later on Jay
Stempniak's goal.
Todd Rowley
(Billerica, MA) made 31 saves en route to the win for SNHU, which
was outshot 34-29. Jeremy Rossignolo made 25 saves for the
Ravens. SNHU was 2-6 on the power play, while Franklin Pierce
was unable to capitalize on its lone power play opportunity.
SNHU returns to action Tuesday when
it hosts Becker College at The Ice Den at 7:30 pm.
