HOOKSETT, N.H. - Jason Yuel (Winnipeg, Manitoba) totaled
three goals and two assists to lead Curry College to a 9-1 ECAC
Northeast ice hockey victory over Southern New Hampshire University
at The Ice Den Thursday night. The Colonels snapped a
five-game slide to improve to 8-7-1 and 6-1-1 in the league, while
the Penmen are now 8-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in ECAC-NE play.
Jeffrey Hazelwood (Dublin, CA) totaled two
goals and three assists for Curry, which also got three assists
from Trevor Spiridi (Cranston, RI).
Jeremy Hmura (New Lenox, IL) and Sean
Sylvester (Randolph, NJ) each had a goal and an assist.
Troy Maybury (South Portland, ME) recorded
SNHU's lone goal midway through the third period with
Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, MA) assisting.
Despite outshooting SNHU 15-7 in the first frame, Curry held
just a 1-0 lead at the first intermission on a Yuel goal at the
5:23 mark. The Colonels would break the game open with three
goals in a span of 2:29 in the second period, with James
Pentecost (Marquette, MI) scoring at 8:30, Yuel scoring at
the 9:26 mark and Louis Hoey (Doylestown, PA)
scoring at 10:59. Curry would tack on four more goals in the
first 7:16 of the third to claim a commanding 8-0 advantage.
Steven Jakiel (Santa Clarita, CA) made 17 saves
for the Colonels en route to the victory as Curry outshot Southern
New Hampshire 42-18. Shane Brooks
(Kennebunk, ME) allowed six goals and made 27 saves before being
relieved by Todd Rowley (Billerica, MA) 5:11 into
the third period. Rowley made six saves and allowed three
goals.
Curry was 4-10 on the power play while SNHU was 1-7 with the man
advantage.
SNHU returns to action Saturday night when it travels to
Fitchburg State College for a 7:00 contest.
