FITCHBURG, Mass. - Fitchburg State College won
its second straight game behind a pair of Stephen Schofield (Valley
Village, CA/Bay State Breakers) tallies as the Falcons outlasted
Southern New Hampshire University, 4-3, Saturday night at Fitchburg
State's Wallace Civic Center in ECAC Northeast ice
hockey action.
Bob Kalousian (Marlboro, MA/Suffolk
University) got the scoring started for the Falcons, who improved
to 8-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the ECAC Northeast. Patrick Dolan
(St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Jr. Blues) and Chris Riggs (Seweel, NJ/Ft.
Vnacouver Pioneers) assisted on the opening goal just 5:57 into the
contest.
FSC doubled the lead on Schofield's
first of the night from Kalousian at 9:57 of the opening period.
The game remained 2-0 Fitchburg
into the second period where Southern New Hampshire (8-5-1,
5-3-1) got on the board 4:20 into the second on an Ed
Montgomery (Colchester, VT/National Sports Academy) goal
assisted by Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, MA/New
England Huskies) and Evan Williams (Gilford,
NH/Holderness School).
The Falcons got the goal back just
before the close of the middle stanza on Schofield's second goal
set up by John Goffredo (Washingtonville, NY/Boston Harbor Wolves)
and Dolan to make it 3-1 heading into the final 20 minutes of play.
The Penmen cut the lead to 3-2 6:13
into the third on Brandon Hammermeister's
(Calgary, Alberta/Fernie Ghostriders) tally assisted by
John Frey (Westminster, CO/Cushing Academy).
However, Fitchburg's Dolan netted what would become the game-winner
11:17 into the period with Schofield adding the helper.
Southern New Hampshire closed out
the scoring with 2:22 to play in the game when Hammermeister found
the back of the net with assists from Troy Maybury
(South Portland, ME/Bridgton Academy) and Frey.
Senior goaltender Devan McConnell
(Lake Stevens, WA/St. Louis Jr. Blues) turned away 24 shots to
record the victory for the Falcons while SNHU netminder
Matt Courchesne (Bow, NH/Exeter Seawolves) made 34
stops in the loss.
SNHU returns to action Wednesday
night when it hosts Plymouth State University at The Ice Den.
Faceoff is slated for 7:30.
